Dear High School Student,
Everyone knows that high school and college are two completely different things, but most of the time high schoolers don't know how. Kieth Hjortshoj explains that there are five basic categorical differences. Not all of them apply to me so I'll inform of two of them. One of the key differences is how college requires new kinds of self-discipline and motivation. My first semester I didn't have my mom getting me up for school, making sure I finished my homework, or making me go to bed. That freedom is fun but it can be too much to handle. At first I got behind in my classes because I skipped a lot, don't do it. Tell yourself to go to class because it will only help you out. Another difference he brings up is the idea of Academic Freedom. Basically, not every teacher has to teach the same class the same as another teacher. So being able to miss a class and asking your buddy to help you out doesn't always work here. For example, my world Issues class was super easy but my buddy's World Issues class that was taught by another teacher was super hard. Now for me it was great but just remember it doesn't mean you'll be lucky like I was. Now Hjortshoj did not mention the fact that one different thing between the two is the fact that you're on your own. For me that was awful at first. I missed my family like crazy, so if you decide to go far away to college then make sure you're ready for it because sometimes support is the most important thing. Another thing that he doesn't really explain is 20/80 and 80/20 rule. In high school everything is handed to you, you honestly really don't need to study that much, but college you really need to study. You 20% of your knowledge in class and 80% outside of class. So make sure you come prepared to spend hours studying because I wasn't and I failed my first test (it isn't a great feeling). But hey, don't worry because you'll do great here, just stay positive and good luck!!
Yours Truly,
Just Another College Student

Most Confusing Night Ever.
What? Where am I? What is this place? How in the hell did I get here? Man I must have had a rough night haha. Ouch what is in my pocket? Oh my lanta a screwdriver, $873.97, gloves, some fake I.D., and bubblegum.
Oh my gosh its all coming back to me now. It all started when I went out to the new club Mango's. I went with my best friend Darren because he and his girl friend split up the night before and I wanted to help him try to clear his mind. It all went haywire once we got to the club. We walked in and it was crazy. Lights flashing all over the place, music blaring so loud that you can barely hear the person next to you and people dancing in everywhere. It was what you call "turnt".
So as the night progressed, Darren and I were getting more and more intoxicated. Darren started being belligerent and was getting in an argument with this group of some pretty intimidating looking figures. So I went over to try to stop him and then a gun was pulled. I immediately was stunned, I never had a gun pulled on me before. The man with the gun was yelling and threatening us. He put the gun next to my head and I closed my eyes, then someone yelled.
The voice was a very distinct voice, it seemed like the man speaking had a lot of authority because all the guys who we were arguing with stopped. The man came over and introduced himself and then told the dude with the gun to put it down. He started talking and said we owed him a favor. So I listened. He said since I just sparred your life, you will be doing my business for me. Then Darren asked what business he was talking about and the man said hijacking cars.
We walked outside once the conversation was over and the man took us over to his car. He opened up his trunk and handed Darren and I each a screw driver, gloves, and a fake I.D. He explained to us that we will be stealing vehicles and bringing them to his shop. He also said that we will be paid for what we do. I asked him what the point in the of the I.D. was because it didnt even look like me and the man said to shut up and not worry, so I did. So Darren came up with the idea of splitting up, at first I opposed it but then I agrred because we could get more done being split up.
I approach my first vehicle and I put on my gloves. At first I didnt understand why I need these ugly things. They were a dirty brown, two sizes too small, and they itched like crazy. I realized though that they will cover up my finger prints so I put up with it. Once I get in the vehicle I pull out the screwdriver. The screwdriver was honestly a very nice one, it had a great grip on it and it seemed like it had never been used. I used the screwdriver to start the car and viola, it started.
I drive the car to the man's shop and was paid for my duty and he said go get some more. As Im on my way I stopped at the gas station so I could buy some gum because I was getting very anxious and gum helps me when Im in that condition. Just for kicks and giggles I decided to get $1.03 pack of Hubba Bubba because it was my favorite gum as a child.
The night was coming to an end and I stole over twelve vehicles. I thought I was hot stuff. I made $875, everything was going great and then everything went down hill in a matter of seconds. I was on my thirteenth vehicle when out of nowhere a cop pulled up. Instead of trying to think of some lie, I thought I'd try to take him out because I didnt want to go to jail.
Now Im in here. I dont really know what exactly happened after I tried attacking the officer but Im guessing I lost. So now I will just sit in my cell and just wait until my hearing. If there is one thing I learned about life last night it would be the fact to never go out with Darren to clubs agaain.

Poe and His Writings
Throughout Poe's life, death occurred many times. Whether it was his mother, foster father, or wife, death occurred. When it came to writing, Poe was amazing at incorporating the deaths he went through and being able to make an amazing story. Three great examples of his works that talk about death are: "The Black Cat", "Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Masque of the Red Death". In "The Black Cat" starts out his story talking about how he was a happy child and he loved animals but over years he changed and turned to alcoholism. Poe writes about that to show what happened in his life. In reality Poe was an alcoholic (who came blame him) and probably changed the way he viewed life. In "Tell-Tale Heart" Poe explains how he never had a problem with the old man but he still killed him (because of the vulture's eye). Well when Poe was growing up his foster father and him butted heads a lot, they were both bull headed. So I believe Poe probably used the "Tell-Tale Heart" as a fantasy of killing his foster father. Knowing how crazy and mad Poe was, he probably wanted to just get back at his foster father. "The Masque of the Red Death" is the best example of Poe's life. In the story there are seven rooms, which are believed to be the seven stages of life. No one ever went into the seventh room due to the darkness and the scarlet blood colored window panes. Poe used this story to show the hatred towards the wealthy. In reality his mother and wife died to Tuberculosis because it was incurable at the time, but no matter what the wealthy people are usually better off. So he wrote this to show that no matter who you are, you can't hide from death. Also this story shows the relationship between "Red Death" and "Tuberculosis". They were both awful diseases that could not be stopped and Poe had first hand knowledge of them both. So when it comes to writing what you know, Poe was excellent at it. Anyone who has/had been through what he had can feel the pain he writes with. Poe will always be known as the author who had a horrible life, and it shows in his works.
